A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Jonathan Engle began flute studies at the age of 12. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, Orion String Quartet, Ensemble 212, the 85th Street Quintet, and Bachanalia Ensemble among others. In addition to his work with Lunatics at Large, Jonathan has advocated new music through frequent performances with the Second Instrumental Unit and as a founding member of the Mimesis Ensemble. Equally at home as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician, Jonathan has performed in many of America's leading venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Steinway Hall in New York City, Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. In addition, he has participated in master classes with such leading flutists as Bonita Boyd, Marina Piccinini, Julius Baker, Keith Underwood, Emmanuel Pahud, Judith Mendenhall, Trudy Kane, Joshua Smith, Paula Robison, and Michael Parloff. Jonathan received his Bachelors and Masters degrees and Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music.
