Violist Jen Herman began her viola studies at the age of eight, and since then has toured in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. She was a member of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, principal violist of the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and principal violist and artist-in-residence at the Conductors Retreat at Medomak. Jen has also performed with the Lansing, Midland, Princeton, and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestras and is the principal violist of Chelsea Opera. As a chamber musician, she has performed with the F.R.E.D. Chamber Players, a Summergarden String Quartet Concert at MoMA through the New Juilliard Ensemble, at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Pre-Concerts, and is a founding member of the contemporary ensemble Lunatics at Large. Ms. Herman was the winner of the Mannes College of Music Low String Concerto Competition in 2006 and the University of Michigan Concerto Competition (String Division) in 2009. A passionate teacher, she maintains a private studio, is a teaching artist currently working with nursery school children, and is on faculty at The Harmony Program. Ms. Herman is currently performing with various chamber, orchestral, and jazz ensembles in the New York City area.
